Are you achieving the things in your life that you want to? If not, this may be the answer that you have been looking for.
Happy New Year! I hope everyone is having a great start thus far.
In the spirit of the new year I want to share something that is near and dear to my heart. That is on the subject of Goal setting or “new year resolutions”.
Now let me start off by saying that I am 100% for Goals(I set 8 for myself in 2019) so hang in there with me.
As you are starting 2019, I’m sure many of you have set goals or new year resolutions. If you did, I would like you to think of the reason why you are setting them. Is it to just accomplish that one goal or resolution? Or, is it to reach your goal celebrate it and move forward to the next one?
If you chose the first one, I would like to challenge your thinking. Now, stay with me and hear me out.
I am going to share with you something that one of my mentors shared with me a couple years ago.
The thing he shared and challenged me was to be “Growth Conscious” and not “Goal Conscious”.
When you are focused on achieving a goal and not growth, you are less likely to get back up when you don’t achieve it 100%. Also, if you achieve the goal, you are likely to stay there and not move on to something new.
Let’s go to the why you set the goal(s) that you do or did. If I could take a guess I would say it was because you were not happy with that particular area of your life and wanted to change or improve it. That is where having a growth mindset is going to allow you to really change.
See, Growth and change isn’t just in one goal or resolution, it is a process, a lifestyle. Everyday, the mindset should be what happened and what can I learn from it so I can get closer to the outcome that I want to achieve. With this mindset, you are not focused on the goal but on who you want to become and achieve in your life.
It is with this mindset you can go out and achieve big things. Things that may look scary and out of reach right now, but with a plan you can go out and achieve.
I want to leave you with three action steps to do everyday that will help you become and achieve what you want in this life.
- Every day read – Read something even if it’s 5 minutes. That way, you are constantly growing
- Every day Reflect-When reflecting you are able to learn from the day and the lessons that life taught you.
- Every Day Write – When you write on a daily basis, especially after reflection, you are able to put down what you are learning and also where you want to go in the future.
To a bright and successful new year.
